DEED pupil workshops exploring Nepal are suitable for Key Stage 2

Approx 1 hour or 2 hours with a central theme of 'journeys'.

Workshops are bespoke and can include

Introducing Nepal:

Exploring aspects of Nepalese culture, the Himalayas, Kathmandu, a brief overview of recent history, religion, daily life etc.

Artefacts from the DEED everyday objects box:  Pupils are encouraged to explore and discuss items, some of which were donated by Gurkha families at Blandford Camp.
The workshop emphasises similarities and differences and leads to fun hands-on activities exploring Nepalese food and everyday life.

Nepalese story about a journey - “I Doko” the tale of a basket.

Journeys: nepal_monk_painting

Exploring a Gurkha soldier's long and arduous journey from Nepal to Britain, considering any sacrifices involved. How would pupils feel? Activites to explore similarities and encourage empathy and understanding with people from other backgrounds and cultures.

Discuss, what is a journey?  Why do we make special journeys, consider reasons - celebration event, pilgrimage, exploration, work.

Plan a special journey of your own, or plan your own journey into the Himalayas. What would you bring? Who would you like to go with? What would you find difficult about your journey?
