We were founded in 1983 in Bournemouth and originally covered the east side of the county of Dorset (hence our original name was Development Education in ‘East’ Dorset). We now cover the whole of the county and work across the 3 Local Authorities of Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole to deliver global citizenship education to schools, early years settings, education establishments, local businesses and community organisations.
We have over 30 years experience working with teachers, Early Years practitioners, other educators and young people to raise awareness of global interdependence and to help create a more just and sustainable world. As we are independent we rely on income from our customers and funding bodies such as DFID, and the Heritage Lottery Fund and we are constantly seek funding to deliver our work.
We offer four main areas of work: Training for teachers; Workshops for pupils; Resources to borrow and buy; and Exhibitions to display. All our services are designed to support and enhance all aspects of education from a global perspective in order to encourage children of all ages to develop self confidence, increased awareness and a positive attitude to taking responsible action.
We do it because we know that global education is good education and it provides educators with an understanding of, and respect for cultural diversity; an awareness of the challenges of creating a sustainable future; the ability to understand and feel confident of their place within this interconnected world and of how their everyday actions affect the lives of others.
